Last night we returned home from the cabin to a golden surprise of screeching proportions: our very first homegrown egg!
The girls had been confined to their (6' x 14') coup and I was eager to let them run around and peck a patch of new dirt. Before we unloaded the car or unlocked the house, before we even unbuckled the kids - I opened up the chicken run so that the ladies could flap their wings and inflict further damage on my winter garden.
Going through the motions, I said 'hello' to Beatrice, Simone, Princess and Lady Gaga, spread some scratch, and checked the nesting box.
And there is was.
