We all got out back today - some of us more quickly than others. I occassionally tell the kids that there will come a time in their lives when they will actaully want to do things like - go outside, finish their dinner and sleep in late. They aren't buying any of it.
I worked on some heirloom seed starters with the big kid while Daddy made some modifications to the chicken coop palace. We planted cantalope, banana melon, yellow bell peppers, soy beans and sunflowers.
Isn't that crazy looking! Apparently the flavor is wonderful as well.
Here is Daddy removing a portion of the coop's palace's Chicken Taj Mahal's galvanized steel roof and replacing it with a clear cover to allow more sunlight in for the ladies princesses. There is a lot of information out there on having backyard chickens but some things you just have to figure out yourselves. Our chickens comfort level has been a big topic of discussion for us over the past few months. We've spent a lot of time (and too much money) trying to make their life *perfect*. Hopefully, this will be the last modification for a while and we can start working at getting the average cost of each egg laid down from $57/piece. (Of course, I'm still pushing for heating in their roosting area during freezing nights. ;)
Look at little Miss Frijoles playing Mother Hen! This was a first for her - getting in there and really interacting with them, which just melted me.
Can you see our new peach tree in the foreground? Beautiful blossoms!
One of my favorite scents in this world is that of Pink Jasmine. I just planted our first!
