I have to admit - for years I have abused the convenience of the oatmeal packet. It all started very innocently, I thought I was making a super healthy choice for breakfast. Then I checked the sugar content: 2 teaspoons of sugar per packet.
A good friend told me her solution: make plain oatmeal and add a piece of fruit. The natural sugar in the fruit made up for the missing flavor of the refined sugar. I tried it and she was right! Lately I've been making a big pot of it and everyone gets a scoop with whatever topping they want. Here's Daddy's bowl with fresh apple butter.
I make a bowl of oatmeal each morning cooked with raisins, walnuts and a little cinnamon...YUM, I never get tired of this breakfast. I probably eat it 300 days a year!

I like it with freeze-dried blueberries, pecan, a touch of brown sugar, and cream.
