My Fig Tree Loves Me

Be still my beating heart...

...it's frickin' FIG season!! 

What is it about the first fruit or vegetable spotted? It just sends us folks into a dizzy spell of excitement. I don't even love figs - but man-o-man, I sure act like I do!

It's time for Fig + Brie Panini's, Carmelized Fig Ice Cream, or my absolute favorite from last year, Fig + Thyme Jam.

The best part about our Mission Fig tree is that this year it is finally big enough that I can sacrafice branches, dripping with fruit, for indoor floral arrangements. I had thought the tree would rest this year, after the bounty is put out last, but no, no. She's going crazy out back and there is, and will be, plenty to spare. 

Here is an arrangement I made last night using fig tree branches, artichokes and lacecap hydrangeas.
